One of the events that created conflict in the story was that the kid did not know how to fly a plane and the pilot died. The kid got lucky that the pilot taught him enough to land the plane. Personally I probably would have taken my chances with a parachute. Although there was something I don't understand, if the plane had enough fuel to make it to the airport when the pilot was flying it, why did it not have enough when the pilot was dead? It could not have been that the plane would refuel in the air because with the type of plane he was flying you can easily understand that the plane does not have this mechanism.


Another conflict that the kid had was dealing with animals. Every animal he encountered caused a problem except for the fish (which he ate). For instance, a skunk somehow got into his cave, sprayed him and ate all his food. Or for example when he encountered a cow and was charged over three times. I think he could have prevented most of these encounters if he had gotten the survival kit earlier.
